WHO WE ARE

IMBAS has been established by an ad hoc group of University-based academics and performers convened by Prof. Helen Phelan (UL) and including Dr Michael Finneran (MIC), Prof. Jools Gilson (UCC), John Godfrey (UCC), Dr Nicholas Johnson (TCD), Prof. Patrick Lonergan (NUI Galway) and Prof. Mel Mercier (UL). This interim steering committee will lead IMBAS for an initial period, leading in time to the establishment of clear governance and the election of a steering group.

MEMBERSHIP AND MAILING LIST

IMBAS is a new network intended to share information, develop strategy and lobby for policy change for arts practice research in the performing and other arts in Ireland. IMBAS will support artist scholars in academic positions within universities in Ireland, as well as enhancing the development of existing and emerging arts practice research PhD programmes in the performing and other arts. This work will focus on national policy, diversifying metrics for documenting arts practice research, funding, shifting public perception about the nature of arts practice as a distinctive intelligence, and other relevant issues. IMBAS will develop fora for sharing best practice in arts practice research methodologies, ethics, dissemination, peer review and assessment.

We warmly extend an invitation to colleagues across Ireland to join IMBAS and be a part of the development of arts practice research in the performing arts as a distinctive and provocative presence in the Irish third level system.
